We are now famous in Danubius for basing
our relaxation and therapeutic treatments on the earth’s natural gifts. Perhaps one of our
most popular treatments is the mud-pack. In fact it so important
to our spas, we now recognize and call it our ‘signature’ treatment.
So what is the purpose of a mud-pack?
Generally because of its heat conducting properties the mud is
excellent for reducing muscle tension, local swellings around
the joints whilst improving the function of cartilages and connective
tissues. It also has excellent anti-inflammatory effects. Because
the treatment it has such a relaxing effect, many guests without
medical problems use this as part of a well being program. For
safety reasons and to ensure maximum benefit the application
of the mud is prescribed by a doctor in all of our spas. This
means a quick consultation and a blood pressure check, before
starting.
The mud we use is totally natural, and is made up from decomposed
aquatic plants and other special curative ingredients. In Hungary
the mud comes from the famous Hévíz lake, the largest
of its kind, and in Slovakia from the river Váh.
What is the procedure of the mud treatment?
On arriving for your treatment you will be asked to undress and
lie down on the treatment couch. Our therapist will then apply
the mud at approximately 5 cm thick. This is either done by hand
or machine, to all areas of the body with exception of the head,
and frontal parts of the chest and throat. The mud generally
has a thick butter like consistency and because it is put on
the body at 40°C or over, the application is a pleasant sensation.
The entire quantity can be up to 60 kg! The mud is then gently
wrapped to the body with a blanket that is left whilst you rest
for 20 minutes. The feeling is very much like being wrapped up
as a baby or comfortably tucked up in bed. Although at first
it feels a little warm, your body soon becomes accustomed and
begins to really unwind and relax as the healing properties start
to have an effect. Once the 15 minutes is over you have a nice
warm shower to wash off all the mud and a 15 minute dry wrap
or relaxation is advised. Stepping out of the therapy you will
feel a gentle release from any aches and pains and a deep relaxing
sensation.
